Meet Hardy and Lukas

Chengdu is home. This is our guide.

We’re Hardy and Lukas. Chengdu is where we live and work, and this website began with a simple wish: to share the city with people who are curious about it.

Two paths into the same city.

Hardy has family roots in Chengdu, while Lukas came here for university. We have both worked here for a long time, and Chengdu is still where we live our daily lives.

We’re two young people who care about this city. We get to know it by living here: going out for food, trying things to do and exploring places for ourselves. Chengdu City Guide is our way of sharing that experience with you.

Hardy

Family roots and everyday life

Hardy has family roots in Chengdu through his father. He has worked here for a long time and continues to live in the city. Attentive and considerate, he has a habit of thinking about what other people might need and seeing things from their point of view.

Lukas

University, work and everyday life

Lukas went to university in Chengdu and has also worked here for a long time. He still lives here and has a knack for finding good food. Creative and curious, he notices interesting places and small discoveries in everyday life. He takes his responsibilities seriously.

A simple wish: to share Chengdu well.

You might be planning your first visit, thinking about coming back, or simply curious about life here. We want to give you a thoughtful introduction to the city: what to eat, where to spend time, things to try and the practical details that help you feel more at ease.

We want to share what makes Chengdu worth getting to know, while leaving room for the details that do not fit a perfect travel picture. Something can be enjoyable and still have a queue, a trade-off or a reason it may not suit your trip. Those details belong in a useful guide too.

This is our personal, independently run website. It is not an official tourism website. What we bring is a connection to the city through our daily lives, curiosity about it, and the wish to make it easier for someone else to discover.

Sharing what we know, with care.

When we write about a personal experience, it should be something one or both of us actually tried. We want to explain what we enjoyed, what to consider and who it might suit. Information gathered from a venue or a public source is kept distinct from an account of our own visit.

Practical reference information is different. For opening hours, ticket rules, transport and other changing details, the guides link to relevant sources so you can check with the operator. An update date tells you when a page changed; it does not mean every place was visited or every detail was verified on that date.

Our tastes will not be everyone’s tastes. When sharing a personal opinion, we want to explain the experience behind it, rather than present it as a guarantee of what your visit will be like.

Say hello.

Images and map

The website uses a mix of supplied photographs and AI-generated illustrations. An image illustrates the subject of a page; it is not evidence of a visit by either of us or a portrait of the founders.

  • The shopping-street and Taikoo Li photographs were supplied by us for the website.
  • The panda logo, homepage scenic images and the five dedicated guide illustrations were created with AI. They are illustrative images, not documentary photographs of named venues.
  • The static map uses real street, river and park data from OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). It is an overview for planning.

There is always more to discover.

Living here does not mean knowing every corner of the city. Chengdu keeps changing, and we keep learning about it. We hope this website gives you a useful starting point and the confidence to find your own connection to the place we call home.

If something on the site needs correcting, the contact page explains the contact options currently available.
